Traffic Bridges - Cudal and Cargo

Edward Street Bridge, Cudal

Following significant flooding events in 2022, Cabonne Council undertook assessments of affected infrastructure and identified that the road culvert crossing to Dean Park along Edward Street had sustained structural damage, including cracking and separation of the deck.

In addition to this damage, the crossing and its surrounding drainage infrastructure have required upgrades to improve performance, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall when water flow and capacity can impact access. As a result, the site has been prioritised for improvements to enhance drainage efficiency and overall resilience.

Council is now progressing works to upgrade the Edward Street crossing, with a focus on increasing culvert capacity and improving water flow through the area. These improvements are designed to reduce the impact of high-water levels on the road network and help ensure more reliable access for the community.

To maintain access during construction, a temporary side bridge will be installed following community engagement, ensuring local residents can continue to access their properties.

The project forms part of a broader program of infrastructure upgrades across the Cabonne local government area and is funded through the Regional Transport Resilience Fund, jointly supported by the Australian and New South Wales Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

Baghdad Road Bridge, Cargo

As part of the same funding program, the Baghdad Road Bridge in Cargo has also been identified for replacement to improve safety, functionality and long-term resilience.

The Baghdad Road Bridge is a timber structure located approximately six kilometres from Cargo, crossing Canomodine Creek. It plays an important role in supporting local transport, including access for residents, agricultural operations and regional travel.

The bridge sustained extensive structural damage during recent flooding, impacting its safety and long-term reliability. It will be fully replaced as part of Council’s infrastructure recovery and resilience program.

The new bridge will be constructed using reinforced concrete, providing a stronger and more durable structure with an extended service life. This upgrade will improve safety, increase load capacity and ensure the crossing is better able to withstand future weather events and environmental conditions.
